Histoscope

Histology is the study of microscopic tissue structure. Traditional histology teaching labs rely on light microscopes and a limited array of slides, which can restrict simultaneous observation by multiple learners and in-class discussions. We have developed an interactive web-based microscopy tool called “Histoscope” for teaching oral histology. Histoscope allows users to interact with histology slides, replicating the experience of observing and manipulating a slide under a real microscope. This platform facilitates a personalized learning experience, where students can self-direct their learning to accommodate individual learning preferences and schedules. Some content on the Histoscope website is password-protected and locked to our institution. If you are a member of the University of Alberta, School of Dentistry, please contact us to learn how to get full access to Histoscope. We hope to make this tool more widely available in the future.
